I have finally decided to take the plunge and add a blog to my site. I always wanted an easy way to share information with visitors and I'm super excited to start this journey. Keep coming back to my site and check for updates right here on the blog.
Industrial scales aren't a cheap investment. When something goes wrong with your scale, the last thing you want to consider is replacing it. Unfortunately, some situation may call for scale replacement as the best option. However, it's important to know when replacing an industrial scale is a necessity.

1. If Your Scale Repeatedly Gives You Inconsistent Readings

Inconsistent scale readings defeat the purpose of using a scale. Inconsistent readings can occur because of many reasons. A good deal of the time, the culprit for inconsistent readings is the load cells.
It can sometimes take a while before you notice you're getting inconsistent readings. If you suspect it, then all you have to do is weigh the same thing multiple times on the same platform. If it gives you a different weight each time, then you know you have a problem.

Other mechanical issues can cause inconsistent readings as well. If calibration and maintenance aren't enough to keep your scale's readings consistent and accurate, then you may have to replace it.

2. If Your Scale Falls Into Noticeable Disrepair

Scale components require maintenance and occasional replacing. If a component of your scale falls into disrepair, it will affect the overall performance of the scale.

The longer a component remains in a damaged state, the more likely it will contribute to degrading other components. If you see signs of corrosion, rust, or other damage, you should attempt to have the affected parts repaired or replaced.

If there's too much damage, then you may want to consider a new scale. Often, once corrosion takes root in your load cells or other components, there's little you can do to stop it.

3. If You Start with Low-Quality Equipment or a Faulty Installation

As with most things, quality matters when it comes to industrial scales. Low-quality components and materials can lead to premature degradation. For example, subpar wiring can degrade quickly, especially if you're operating in a harsh environment.

That wiring connects the load cells to the summing box, and then to the control room. That can cause a ton of issues. The load cells themselves should come from a high-quality manufacturer. Faulty design or poor materials can make for load cells that never work quite as they should.

Always look for high-quality scales and components from reputable manufacturers. Look for manufacturers that produce all components of their scales in conjunction with each other. They will put in the effort to make sure everything works together as it should. Avoid adding components piecemeal.

Nevertheless, even the best quality scales can fall apart from poor installation. You should only deal with scale installers with a proven track record.

Scale installation is a delicate process. It requires a lot of testing, adjusting, and more testing before, during, and after the installation. A poor installation can lead to overall failure. Sometimes that failure is impossible to come back from.

4. If You Don't Maintain Your Scale or Deal With Problems Quickly

The best way to keep an industrial scale from reaching the point of no return is through maintenance. Industrial scales require routine servicing and prompt repairs. Servicing can help your scale stay in good condition for a long time to come. Servicing also helps you spot issues or identify potential problems before they make your scale unreliable or inoperative.

The good news is most of the symptoms listed take time before they become the types of problems that require scale replacement. If you're experiencing problems, contact an industrial scale and repair service right away.
